A pragmatic approach to ecology and planning
“Through my work as an ecological consultant, I have seen how poor communication, disproportionate mitigation, and unclear advice can make ecology feel unnecessarily complex and costly within the planning process. This is of benefit to no one: not clients, not planners, and definately not the natural environment.
My approach is shaped by many years of experience in applied ecology and conservation, including work on complex projects in both the UK and overseas. I believe that working with ecology in development should not be a barrier, but a practical process that supports good outcomes for people and nature alike. This principle underpins how I deliver ecological advice.
I believe the growth of rural areas is an important part of this country’s future. When ecological considerations are applied rigidly, without proportionality or evidence, opportunities are missed to integrate nature meaningfully into development. My approach focuses on proportionate, evidence-based solutions, that address real issues rather than creating unnecessary barriers.
I care deeply about the natural environment and have spent decades living and working alongside nature in the Devon countryside. With over a decade of experience in applied ecology, including extensive botanical and protected species survey work, my aim is to help clients navigate planning requirements clearly while supporting developments that contribute positively to our shared natural heritage.”
